Homosexual Behavior Has Been Observed Among Over 1,500 Species

Gay animals? Yes, indeedy. In fact, scientists say that members of over 1,500 animal species have been observed to practice homosexuality.

“One fundamental premise in social debates has been that homosexuality is unnatural. This premise is wrong. Homosexuality is both common and highly essential in the lives of a number of species,” says Petter Boeckman, academic advisor for the “Against Nature’s Order?” exhibition at the University of Oslo’s Natural History Museum.

Of course, this flies in the face of the information pumped out quite vigorously by those who hate gay people—and want you to hate them, too.

Bonobo chimpanzees (pan paniscus) have long been known to practice sexuality of many stripes, and observation in the field has shown that most individuals of this species are bisexual.

Less well known is the fact that homosexuality plays a part in the lives of many social animals. Among lions, for example, males often cooperate with brothers to lead their pride, and as part of maintaining strong social bonds, will occasionally have sex with each other.

Homosexual behavior has also been observed among these animals, just to name a few:

  • Penguins
  • Sheep
  • Dolphins
  • Fruit Bats
  • Ostriches
  • Flamingos
  • Japanese Macaques
  • Giraffes
  • Black-Headed Gulls
  • Laysan Albatrosses
  • Beetles

So the next time you hear a member of the hater community railing about how “unnatural” homosexuality is, let them know that over 1,500 species also carry the rainbow flag.

  1. Just Count Me OUT!

  2. Ha ha! Those comments are hilarious. You present them with facts, & all they can say is it’s facts & that kind of thinking that’s ruining this country? Yes, because logical thinking is what’s ruining things. Certainly not following a fantasy book full of lies from a middle eastern religion written over 2,000 years ago. Yeah, that makes PERFECT sense! Ha!
