Pressure Grows on Susan G. Komen to Reverse Politically-Driven Position

Susan G. Komen For the Cure is the nation’s largest breast cancer charity, and it’s a longtime funder of Planned Parenthood, an organization that provides mammograms and other healthcare to women who would otherwise have no access because of poverty. Recently, they hired a zealously anti-choice vice president, who took advantage of other congressional attacks on Planned Parenthood to drop funding for it because it’s “under investigation.”  Point of information: Abortion services represent only 3% of Planned Parenthood’s entire budget.

The total amount Komen donated each year was $600,000. In the 24 hours following the announcement by Komen, Planned Parenthood raised $400,000. Mayor Mike Bloomberg of New York City donated another $250,000.

In addition, pressure is growing in Congress for Komen to reverse this highly political action.

If you’d like to let the executives at Susan G. Komen For the Cure know how you feel about this issue, you can reach their headquarters at 1-877-465-6636.

Who Cares About Hot Meals For Hungry People?

Here’s the first in a new series of posters, supporting Community Block Grants and the many programs they enable. Instead of cutting these programs, which usually help the most vulnerable people, a tiny reduction in our military budget could easily pick up all the slack.

These are designed to be both posters and petitions. You can put …one up in your workplace or school, collect some signatures at the bottom, then scan it and fire it off to your elected representative.
To download a printable copy, just click on the image above.
Thanks to Joie Finley Morris for suggesting these.
