48 Republicans broke ranks to defeat the much-contested disaster relief bill that also contains measures to prevent the looming government shutdown. This is is being widely interpreted by Beltway insiders as House Speaker Boehner losing the tight control he has exerted over House GOP members throughout 2011.
“This is the beginning of the election year tremors,” said political strategist James Carville. “And the shaking’s going to get bigger, not smaller.”
Sean Hoare, the journalist who broke open the phone hacking case at the British tabloid News of the World, was found dead on Monday. This case, which has so far caused the closure of News of the World, torpedoed Murdoch’s bid for control of BSkyB, and precipitated a cascade of arrests, is now close to spinning out of control.
Rebekah Brooks, the previous director of the Murdoch British tabloids, has just been arrested. We’ve already seen Rupert and son cave into pressure to appear before the British Parliament. Does this mean that Murdoch’s American doppelganger, Fox News, will become vulnerable? Hard to believe that the British pubs were doing anything that Fox wasn’t. Maybe this is our chance to rid America of the most pernicious cancer of the 21st century.
Fox News is the chief enabler and amplifier of the hate mongering that is the most pernicious force in America today. It is at that company’s doorstep, ultimately, that responsibility must be laid. Go to free download page.

It seems odd now, but I remember when Lou Dobbs seemed like a smart and thoughtful guy, with an unusual amount of common-touch for such a high-flyer. Then he went off on this quirky course and is now leaving, and it seems like he will be missed by no one. Lou Dobbs is going rogue…again.
