Live Video Feed for the “Occupy Wall Street” Protest

This video feed is also showing footage from last night. The aim of this group is to take a lesson from the protesters in Tahrir  Square in Egypt and launch a demonstration that doesn’t simply go away when the day is over.  Today, Sept 17, is Day 2.

To see the video feed click here or click the image above. (The feed sometimes drops for a bit, so if you take a look and it’s not going, check it out a little later.)

You can follow the Twitter stream at  #occupywallstreet and #occupywallstreetnyc

Here are pictures from Day 1.

New “Dollar Bill Protest” is Gaining Momentum

These bills are showing up everywhere now. And the amazing thing is, the statement above is true. You may recall the recent public discussion about which large corporations have paid no taxes in recent years, largely because of loopholes put in place by Republican legislators. For example, General Electric paid no taxes at all in 2009. Not a small amount. Not a low rate. They literally did not pay a dollar.

This is the sort of protest that one can engage in from the comfort of one’s own home, with a glass of ice tea at one’s elbow. Of course, defacing money is a crime, so PoliticalLoudmouth would never sanction such a thing. Sugar and lemon for you?

A new guest post by Dr. William Turner. Visit his web site

Everyone’s favorite new, “libertarian” United States Senator, Rand Paul, has taken to distributing a petition in support of his “Right to Work Act,” stating, inter alia, that “This forced unionism breeds violent strikes.”  With this statement, Paul demonstrates nothing but his profound ignorance of U.S. history.

New Poster: “First They Came For the Humanities Majors…”

Here’s a poster for Humanities students protesting program cuts, as they are often the first on the chopping block. We first made this for Jolene Crowell and the Democratic Club of Wright State University, and we’ve received many requests to make a general version, so here it is!

This is, of course, a riff on the famous poem by Martin Niemoller, often mis-attributed to his contemporary, Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
